VELUX offers a limited warranty that covers materials, performance, and leak protection. Every skylight we install is eligible for this protection when installed according to VELUX standards—which we follow on every job. 

The VELUX No Leak Promise

10 Years of Total Leak Protection 

When you install a VELUX skylight with North Star Skylights, your product includes the VELUX No Leak Promise—a 10-year warranty directly backed by VELUX. It’s a commitment to performance, durability, and peace of mind, and it applies only when your skylight is installed using approved materials by a certified team like ours. 

This is a major differentiator between skylights installed by certified professionals and those done by general contractors or DIY attempts. 

What’s Covered

The No Leak Promise ensures: 

  • No water intrusion through the skylight unit 
  • No leaks between the skylight and roof deck 
  • No leaks at flashing connections—when using official VELUX flashing kits 

This applies to both deck-mounted and curb-mounted skylights when installed on single-layer roofing systems, following VELUX instructions to the letter. 

Why it Matters

Leaks are one of the biggest fears homeowners have when adding skylights. The No Leak Promise removes that concern by combining three layers of defense: 

  • Pre-attached Underlayment 
  • Aluminum Flashing System 
  • Factory-Sealed Skylight Frame

Other Warranty Coverage 

Different components of your skylight carry different coverage terms. Here’s what’s covered: 

Insulated Glass Seals

  • If the insulated glass seal fails and causes internal fogging or film buildup: 20 years  
  • Models: FS, VS, VSE, VSS, FCM, VCM, VCE, VCS, and others 

Laminated Glass Hail Protection

  • Laminated glass skylights (double/triple-pane) are warranted against breakage from hail: 10 years (must be verified by the National Weather Service) 

Blinds and Accessories 

  • Coverage: 5 years for most blinds, trim kits, and powered accessories 

Material & Workmanship 

Most VELUX products are protected against material or manufacturing defects: 

  • Skylights, roof windows, flashings: 10 years 
  • Acrylic and polycarbonate units (flat roof): 5 years 
  • Controls, motors, sensors, shades, remotes: 5 years 

Sun Tunnel® Skylights 

  • Rigid tunnel reflection performance: 20 years 
  • General material/workmanship: 10 years 
  • Acrylic dome clarity: 
  • <4.0 Yellowness Index for 5 years 
  • <10.0 Yellowness Index for 10 years 

What’s Not Covered 

While the warranty is extensive, some exclusions apply: 

  • Improper installation by non-certified installers 
  • Damage from acts of nature (hail over 2″, floods, wind-driven rain through open vents) 
  • Condensation from humidity (not considered a leak) 
  • Aging or discoloration due to weather or environmental conditions 
  • Use of unapproved sealants or non-VELUX flashing kits 
  • Cosmetic issues or variations in glass that don’t affect performance

How to File a Warranty Claim 

If you believe your skylight is experiencing a covered issue, we recommend contacting us first. As a certified VELUX dealer and installer, we can help assess the situation and, if needed, guide you through the claim process. 

VELUX may choose to: 

  • Repair the skylight 
  • Replace the affected unit or component 
  • Refund the purchase price (at their discretion)
