Our product offerings include a full range of skylight types, accessories, and smart controls, all backed by expert installation and the VELUX No Leak Promise.

Residential Skylight Systems

The VELUX skylight system is more than just the skylight itself—it’s a complete, integrated solution designed to perform together. It includes the skylight, a VELUX flashing kit for a watertight roof connection, and optional accessories like blinds, remote controls, or smart home automation. Every part is engineered to work as one system, delivering reliable daylight, ventilation, and leak protection.

At North Star Skylights, we install the full VELUX skylight system—so you get better performance, a cleaner finish, and full warranty coverage.

Backed by the VELUX No Leak Promise

Leaks used to be the biggest concern with skylights. Not anymore. Every VELUX skylight we install comes with the VELUX No Leak Promise—a 10-year installation warranty that covers leaks through the skylight, around the frame, and at the roof connection.

This promise is made possible by VELUX’s certified three-layer waterproofing system: pre-attached underlayment, an aluminum flashing kit, and a factory-sealed frame. It’s a system built to handle Minnesota’s weather and backed by over 75 years of innovation.

And there’s more peace of mind:

  • 20 years on glass
  • 10 years on product components
  • 5 years on shades and accessories

It all adds up to one thing—natural light without the worry.

What’s the difference between fixed, manual, electric, and solar-powered skylights?

Fixed skylights do not open—they’re ideal for bringing light into areas where ventilation isn’t needed. Manual skylights open by hand and are best for easily reachable spaces. Electric skylights use your home’s power and open with a remote, while solar-powered skylights are operated by solar energy and come with a remote and built-in rain sensor.

How do I know which skylight is best for my room?

It depends on your goals. For example, venting skylights are great for bathrooms and kitchens where fresh air is important. Fixed skylights are ideal for stairwells or hallways. During your consultation, we’ll help you choose based on the room’s use, orientation, and ceiling type.

What are Sun Tunnels, and how are they different from regular skylights?

Sun Tunnels are tubular skylights that bring light through a reflective tunnel instead of an open shaft. They’re designed for small or enclosed areas where a traditional skylight isn’t practical—like closets, pantries, or hallways.

K
L
Do solar-powered skylights really qualify for a tax credit?

Yes. Solar-powered skylights and blinds from VELUX are eligible for a federal tax credit of up to 30% of the product and installation cost. We’ll provide the paperwork you need to claim the credit.

K

Can I control my skylight or shades with my phone?

If you install a solar or electric skylight, yes. VELUX ACTIVE with NETATMO allows you to control skylights and blinds via an app and automates them based on indoor air quality and weather conditions.

How long do VELUX skylights typically last?

With proper installation and occasional maintenance, VELUX skylights can last 20+ years. All new installations by North Star Skylights include the VELUX No Leak Promise with up to 20 years of product coverage.
